Joint Mobilisation and Manipulation

Joint Mobilisation and Manipulation

Joint Mobilisations and Manipulations
Hands-on treatments such as joint mobilisation and manipulation can help to restore the movement and reduce the stiffness of joints, both in your spine and your arms/legs.  This in turn helps to reduce pain.
  • Joint mobilisation – these include techniques such as traction/distraction, small oscillations of the joints, mobilisations with movements, and hold/relax movements.
  • Manipulation – sometimes a joint manipulation may be recommended.  Manipulation can rapidly improve joint movement.  You may hear a small ‘click’ or ‘pop’ sound during the procedure.
Joint mobilisations or manipulations are rarely used in isolation.  These techniques work best alongside other treatments such as an exercise programme to maintain the joint movement and prevent reoccurrence.

Please note – as with any physiotherapy treatment you are likely to experience mild tenderness for 24-48 hours after the treatment.
