Cronic Pain

 Frequently Asked Questions

  • What happens at my first physiotherapy appointment?

Your first appointment lasts for one hour to allow enough time to fully discuss and assess your problem.

You will be asked a number of questions about your problem, how it is affecting you and what impact it is having on your life, along with what you would like to achieve. You will also be asked questions about your medical history and any medication you take.

Following this, your physiotherapist will conduct a thorough physical examination. They will then explain why you are experiencing your symptoms and discuss treatment options.

Your physiotherapist will then start treatment to relive your symptoms. They will also provide advice on management strategies that you can be doing in between sessions to help improve things faster.

  • Do I need to bring anything with me?

Please bring any x-ray or scan results or any reports about your condition to the first appointment. Please also bring a list of your current medication.

  • What clothing should I wear for a physiotherapy appointment?

To fully assess your condition, it may be necessary to remove some clothing. A vest top or a pair of shorts can be helpful.

  • Can I claim physiotherapy appointments on health insurance?

Yes.  You can claim the cost of your session back from your health insurance, but please check your policy to confirm physiotherapy is covered.  We are recognised by BUPA, WPA and The Pain Service insurance companies and can invoice them directly.  For all other insurance companies you will be asked to settle payment at the end of each session.  You will then be given a detailed receipt which can be used to claim the money back from your insurance company.

  • How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions needed will vary depending on your condition. After you have been fully assessed in your first session, your physiotherapist will discuss a treatment plan with you.

  • Do I need to see my doctor first?

If you are self-funding your treatment, then you do not need to see your GP. If you are claiming physiotherapy treatment through medical insurance, please check with your provider first as some companies require a GP referral.
