Vestibular / Dizziness Rehabilitation
Unexpected dizziness can be a very disconcerting and sometimes scary experience.  Targeted physiotherapy can be very effective at reducing the severity and frequency of dizziness and vertigo episodes for a number of conditions.  This form of physiotherapy is called Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy.

Your vestibular system is a sensory system which comprises of parts of your inner ear and brain.  It is responsible for controlling balance and giving you spatial orientation.  Damage to this system can therefore cause dizziness, visual problems and difficulty with balance.  Sometimes the damage is only temporary, but if the damage is permanent, physiotherapy can help the body and brain to retrain itself to compensate for the damage.  Vestibular rehabilitation therapy includes habituation, gaze stabilisation and balance exercises.

Some of the conditions that physiotherapy can help with include:
  • BPPV (Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo) – treatment can include the Epley manoeuvre
  • Vestibular neuritis (VN) and peripheral labyrinthitis
  • Migraine related vertigo
  • Cervicogenic dizziness (dizziness caused by neck problems)
Vestibular/dizziness rehabilitation is offered by Elizabeth Watson.
